A hero award for Robert!

Brum member Robert has recently been awarded for his voluntary support to Birmingham’s annual ‘Arts All Over The Place’ festival. The nine-day arts and wellbeing festival showcased the talents of individuals who have experienced mental health problems.

Keen to be involved, Robert signed up for his first ever volunteer role. Prior to the festival, he delivered 2000 flyers, and during the event, he was responsible for meeting and greeting attendees, as well as keeping the cafe area clean and tidy and ensuring tea, coffee and biscuits were replenished. He also involved himself in a number of the workshops and on the final day of the festival, World Mental Health Day, he performed one of his own songs – Josie Wales.

“The festival was a great experience. I met some new and wonderful people and really enjoyed myself.”

Robert received an award for his contribution and gained a second award which he didn’t expect – a Hero Award – for working for the full nine days. He has since become a member of the Arts All Over The Place committee, meeting other members on a monthly basis to discuss the direction of Arts All Over The Place.
